NEW FOR 2015 - All-new model. Revolutions are few and far between in the world of pickup trucks, but one’s arrived for 2015 in the form of the completely redesigned Ford F-150. Ford is taking a gamble with North America’s top-selling vehicle by slimming down, substituting aluminum for steel in its half-ton’s bodywork shedding up to 500 lbs (the frame is still made from steel, should you be wondering). This full-size diet helps the F-150 abate its thirst for fuel, but also improves the truck’s ride, handling, and comfort. The F-150 also gets a handsome new interior that’s a step above in the fit and finish department. Depending on how much you’re willing to spend, the F-150 can be outfitted with such conveniences as a 360-degree camera, an enhanced instrument cluster with TFT displays, a panoramic sunroof, and even a remote-release tailgate. The F-150 is offered with a wide array of powertrains – though fewer of them are V8s than in previous years. A 3.5-litre naturally aspirated engine is the standard issue motor, which is joined by the familiar 3.5-litre EcoBoost twin-turbo V6, and a naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V8. What’s new, though, is a 2.7-litre EcoBoost V6 that splits the difference – it develops 325 hp and 375 lb-ft of torque. It’s also the most economical of F-150 engines, consuming as little as 12.2 L/100 km in the city and 9.2 on the highway. All F-150s feature a six-speed automatic and drive through either the rear or all four wheels. The F-150 is offered in XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum trims. An all-new Raptor will return to the lineup for model year 2017. The XL comes standard with the 3.5-litre naturally aspirated V6. Opting for the SuperCab adds 60/40 split flip up rear seat, 2nd-row fixed windows, and stereo system with six speakers. The optional XL Power Equipment Group adds power door locks, power locking tailgate, keyless entry, power windows, power mirrors, illuminated entry system, auto on/off headlamps, MyKey, perimeter alarm, CD player, aux-in jack, cruise control, 4.2-inch TFT display in instrument cluster, Sync, and two USB ports. The XL Chrome Package adds chrome front bumper with body-colour upper fascia, chrome rear bumper, fog lamps, 17-inch aluminum wheels. The XL Sport Package adds body colour front bumper and upper fascia, body colour rear bumper, fog lamps, 17-inch aluminum wheels, and Sport decals. The FX4 Off-Road package adds electronic locking rear axle, off-road tuned shock absorbers, skid plates, transfer, and hill descent control.
