History/Overview
In 2019, Ford revived the Ranger name with this mid-size model to slot in below the full-size F-150. The Ranger is no longer the new kid on the Ford block thanks to the 2022 introduction of the Maverick, but it remains a compelling option in the mid-range truck class.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
For 2023, the Ranger carries forward unchanged, but we expect an all-new version to come to market in 2023 as a 2024 model.
Available Trims
Ford offers the Ranger in XL, XLT, and Lariat trim levels. All are powered by a 2.3L turbo four-cylinder engine, a 10-speed transmission, and four-wheel drive.
Standard Features
XL starts with auto on/off headlights, manual A/C, a 3.5-inch touchscreen, vinyl floors, power door locks, four-speaker audio, 16-inch wheels, and an engine block heater.
XLT adds LED headlights/taillights, halogen fog lights, 17-inch wheels, a power-locking tailgate, body-colour wheel moldings, power-adjustable side mirrors, keyless entry, and a rear window defroster. Inside, there’s dual-zone A/C, a 4.2-inch central display, an 8.0-inch touchscreen, carpeted floors, cruise control, six-speaker audio, and satellite radio. Lariat’s safety additions are blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beams, and lane-keeping assist.
Lariat gains LED fog lights, chrome exterior trim, body-colour door handles, power-folding side mirrors, rear parking sensors, ambient lighting, passive keyless entry, an auto-dimming interior mirror, and 18-inch wheels.
Key Options
In XL, a Co-Pilot 360 package adds forward collision mitigation, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, trailer tow monitoring, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high beams.
In XLT, a 301A package brings rear parking sensors, an auto-dimming mirror, and a 110-volt power outlet. The 302A pack adds heated/power front seats, heated side mirrors, and remote engine start. The FX4 off-road bundle brings off-road suspension and tires, tow hooks, skid plates, and trail control. A tech package gets adaptive cruise, front parking sensors, and navigation.
In Lariat trim, a Tremor off-road package gets a locking rear differential, Fox rear shocks, and a variety of cosmetic tweaks.
Fuel Economy
Ford’s fuel consumption estimates are 11.8/9.6 L/100 km (city/highway) for regular models, and 12.4/12.3 L/100 km for trucks with the Tremor package.
Competition
