For 2007, the Honda Odyssey minivan receives some additional items: all models now have a coin box, tilt and telescopic steering wheel, and tire pressure monitoring system. There is a horsepower drop from 2006, but it is due to new SAE standard measurements; the actual engine power does not change.
The Odyssey is available as the LX, EX, EX-L and Touring; all use a 3.5-litre V6, but the EX-L and Touring receive Variable Cylinder Management (VCM), which deactivates the three rear cylinders under light load for improved fuel economy.
Features on the LX include seven-passenger seating, 16-inch steel wheels, four-wheel disc brakes with ABS, side and curtain airbags, heated mirrors, intermittent rear wiper/washer, variable intermittent wipers, tinted glass, air conditioning, cruise control, power windows, power locks with keyless entry, second-row manual HVAC controls, tilt and telescopic wheel, CD player with four speakers, six-way manual driver’s seat, and 60/40 split third row seat.
The EX is eight-passenger, and adds 16-inch alloy wheels, security system, power sliding doors, body-colour mirrors and handles, roof rails, auto-off headlamps, conversation mirror, dual-zone climate control, garage door opener, second-row sunshades, six-CD stereo with six speakers, eight-way power driver’s seat, passenger under-seat storage tray, and stowable second-row “plus one” seat.
The EX-L adds power sunroof and heated leather seats; a rear-seat DVD system can be added as an option.
The Touring seats seven and adds front and rear parking sensors, fog lights, 115-volt power outlet, auto-dimming rearview mirror, auto on/off headlamps, navigation system with bilingual voice recognition and backup camera, in-floor storage with lazy susan, multi-information display, power-adjustable pedals, power liftgate, driver’s memory seat, removable second-row console, tri-zone automatic climate control with second-row automatic HVAC controls, premium six-CD stereo with seven speakers, and rear-seat DVD system.
The Honda Odyssey remains the benchmark for minivans: it’s powerful, it handles well, and its upper lines have luxury interiors that rival some high-end sedans, although it also becomes rather expensive. It’s a big vehicle and passengers in all three rows of seats have a great deal of room; pull a handle, and the 60/40 third row cleverly flips and folds into a storage well to create a flat floor. On the Touring model, a second underfloor storage compartment contains a removable lazy susan for easy storage of small items. Unlike Chrysler’s Stow ’n Go foldaway seats, though, the Odyssey’s heavy second-row seats must be manually removed in order to achieve a full cargo floor area.
