Exmilitary Trailhawk is tops January 09, 2020 Trailhawk
Overall Score
To be honest, I've wanted a Trailhawk since I first saw them in 2014 but over the years, I kept seeing so many negative reports on the transmissions, transfer cases, etc. so I put it out of my mind. 5 years later, I now own one after more research and I don't regret my decision. Lane departure assist, park assist (parallel & perpendicular), adaptive cruise, collision warning, heated leather seats and steering wheel, nav... essentially loaded. We bought it used mid 2019 after I was t-boned and our previous vehicle was written off. The 3.2 liter is surprisingly peppy for a crossover (obviously it's not a sports car). Plenty of room for the wife and I when we go camping in the foothills. If we decide to buy a trailer in the future, having a 4,500 lb tow rated tow package will handle most types of travel trailers. For all the bells and whistles (more than we need really) it has made driving relaxing. Adaptive cruise is probably our favourite feature when heading to the Rockies. The Trailhawk provides a few advantages for those that like to wander off the pavement. Mild factory lift, skid plates, rear diff lock and a low range transfer case, makes for a trail worthy ride. Especially with hill descent control. If you can find one below market, get it, especially if it has been properly maintained.

Issue: On certain vehicles, a problem with the steering column control module could cause the turn signal lever not to work properly when it's used to signal a right turn. Safety Risk: A turn signal that doesn't work properly could cause a person not to recognize when a driver intends to turn or change lanes and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: FCA Canada will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, replace the steering column control module.

Issue: On certain vehicles with a two-speed power transfer unit (PTU), the input splines on the front differential may wear and fail. If this happens, there could be a loss of power to the wheels. In addition, the PARK position may not hold the vehicle in place. This could allow the vehicle to move unexpectedly when parked. Note: This is an expansion of recall W47 (Transport Canada recall 2020-261). Safety Risk: A vehicle that loses power to the wheels or moves unexpectedly could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: FCA will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to update the software for the power transfer unit. This update will maintain vehicle propulsion by engaging rear wheels if the input splines fail. It will also prevent the vehicle from moving unexpectedly when transmission is in PARK by activating the parking brake.
