NEW FOR 2014:
- Q60 nameplate replaces G37 nameplate
- IPL Coupe discontinued
If you stroll onto an Infiniti dealership lot this year, you’ll see a lot of familiar sheetmetal, but many will have unfamiliar names. Fear not – this is a part of Infiniti’s re-invention, where all of its products now bear the letter Q. As such, the vehicle formerly known as the G37 becomes the Q60.
Other than the new title, nothing has changed about the car for 2014, other than the fact that Infiniti has canned the IPL performance version of the Coupe. You’ll still be able to get ahold of an IPL model, though it’ll need to be with the folding hardtop roof – and with a seven-speed automatic transmission.
Although it’s getting on in its years, the Q60 is a sleek, handsome, and powerful sports machine. Heavy but communicative steering, a burly 3.7-litre naturally aspirated V6 engine, and a choice between a short-throw six-speed manual or a paddleshift seven-speed automatic make them something of an old-fashioned thrill – in a good way, of course. While the Q60 is offered with available safety and technology features like radar cruise control, if you’re on a long journey you’ll need to pack light as both the Coupe and Convertible are desperately short on trunk space.
The Q60 Coupe is available in Q60, AWD, AWD Sport, and 6MT Sport trims, while the Convertible is available in Convertible Sport, 6MT Sport, Premier Edition, and IPL.
Standard features on the Q60 Coupe include seven-speed paddleshift automatic, 18-inch wheels, automatic HID headlamps, fog lights, LED rear brake lights, power sunroof, proximity key with push-button start, heated power mirrors, speed-sensitive wipers, dual exhaust, dual-zone automatic climate control, power windows with auto up/down, illuminated entry, illuminated vanity mirrors, front seatback map pockets, 50/50 split folding rear seatback, leather upholstery, 10-way power driver’s seat, eight-way power front passenger’s seat, driver’s memory seat, heated front seats, aluminum interior trim, leather-wrapped steering wheel, aluminum scuff plates, 10-speaker Bose audio system, AM/FM/CD/DVD/MP3 with USB and aux-in jack, 7.0-inch display audio system, satellite radio, Bluetooth, electroluminescent instrument cluster, power tilt and telescoping steering column, trip computer, reverse camera, rear parking sensor, auto-dimming rear-view mirror with garage door opener, cruise control, analogue clock, and alarm.
Q60 AWD Coupe adds all-wheel drive, and snow mode for automatic transmission.
Q60 AWD Sport adds 19-inch alloy wheels, limited-slip rear differential, sport-tuned suspension, upgraded brakes, sport front fascia, 12-way power adjustable driver’s seat with adjustable side bolsters and manual thigh support, eight-way power adjustable front passenger seat with manual thigh support, aluminum pedals, and magnesium paddles for manual shifting.
