Tekz Amazing vehicle - luxury feeling March 22, 2020 Signature
Overall Score
Had my 2017 CX9 in Signature for over 3 yrs and very nice, solid, reliable (Japan built), comfortable, quiet cabin and luxurious materials inside. Looked at XC90, QX60, RX350, NX, Pilot and Highlander before getting this and this one stood out in terms of performance, design, features, value and luxurious ride compared to the others. Came from a 2010 XC60 and when we switched over to the CX9 Signature, we didn’t lose any of the luxury touches the Volvo had but then some in terms of added safety features, better fuel economy and add’l 2 seats (from a 5 to 7-seater). It is a looker and great styling as have gotten a lot of compliments from friends, co-workers and even strangers. Best of all, not too common on the road!

Issue: On certain vehicles, the fuel pump could fail. If this happens, the engine may run rough or may not start and the check engine light may turn on. This could also result in a sudden loss of engine power while driving. Safety Risk: A sudden loss of engine power while driving could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Mazda will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to replace the fuel pump.

Issue: A small number of vehicles were built with tires that could contain a defect in the tread rubber. As a result, small pieces of rubber may partially detach from the tread. This could cause a vehicle vibration and/or abnormal noise. If you continue to drive the vehicle in this state, section(s) of tread may separate from the tire. Safety Risk: A tire tread separation could affect vehicle stability and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Mazda will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer for an inspection of the tires. If the vehicle has one or more affected tires, all four tires will be replaced.

Issue: A problem with a wiring harness connector could cause the airbag system, turn signals or engine starting system not to work properly. It could also cause false warning lights to come on in the instrument cluster after starting the vehicle. Safety Risk: An airbag system that does not work properly in a crash could create a risk of injury. A loss of turn signal function could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a dealer to repair the wiring harness and connectors.

On certain vehicles, long-term exposure to high absolute humidity and temperature, combined with high temperature cycling, could eventually degrade the propellant contained in the passenger frontal airbag. This could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. As a result, if the vehicle were involved in a collision that warrants airbag deployment, fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants, and the airbag assembly could be damaged, preventing proper function. These issues could increase the risk of injury. Correction: Dealers will replace the passenger frontal airbag inflator. Note: Canadian climate results in the propellant degrading slowly. The recall is being conducted as a precaution to address future risk, and is expected to replace airbag inflators before their function would be affected. Additional Note: This is an expansion of recall 2018-030.

Interim repair parts must be replaced with final repair parts.

On certain vehicles, the nut and bolt holding the strut assembly to the knuckle may not have been tightened properly during the manufacturing process. Over time, this could cause the strut assembly to separate from the knuckle, resulting in a loss of steering control which would increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction : Dealers will inspect and replace the nut and bolt holding the strut assembly to the knuckle if found loose.

On certain vehicles equipped with electrically heated front seats, there is a possibility, under extreme cold conditions, for the seat heater control circuit to overheat and fail due to insufficient electrical grounding. Failure of the seat heater control circuit could result in burn damage of the seat cushion surface, or in the worst case, there is a risk of smoke, fire or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will install an additional ground harness to the seat heater control system.

On certain vehicles equipped with power-adjustable seat with position memory function, the seat wiring harness may be subject to chafe damage. As a result the covering of the seat harness may become damaged, allowing the core wire of the harness to contact a bracket and cause an electrical short-circuit. In the worst case, certain functions such as seat position, height adjustment and seatback reclining may be activated unexpectedly and be uncontrollable. Should this occur while the vehicle is in motion, it could result in a vehicle crash causing property damage, personal injury or death. Correction: Dealers will inspect and secure the seat harness as required. If necessary, the harness covering will be repaired or the harness will be replaced.
