2017 Chevrolet Volt Electric

It's a terrific ride.
I have put on just over 1000 miles on my new 2017 Volt. I had a 2013 Volt and thought it was great. This 2017 is better in every way. Loaded with features, comfortable and much more enjoyable to drive. With over 1000 miles I still have over a 1/4 tank of gas. The car has only a 9 gallon fuel tank. Do the math, it is extraordinary. The car needs to be driven. As quiet as anything on the road, regardless of price. Smooth and addicting to drive. Go beyond your fear of electric and drive it, you will not go back to the combustion engine. Oh and it is affordable. Factor in that you will seldom stop a a gas station and very little to no maintenance, My last volt 1 oil change in 3 years. Not one problem with the car at all. Driving past gas stations that I would stop at every week puts smile on my face every time. Go drive one!!

2015 Chevrolet Volt Electric

Wonderful, fun car that saved me a lot on gas
I had a 2015 Volt until it was totalled in a head-on collision after 18 months. In that time I racked up 65,000 km and saved over 75% of my usual gas bills. It drives well, handles great, and has lots of good features.
Even being very tall, I fit in this car nicely and had lots of room for storage in the back.

Great Electric Vehicle
The Chevrolet Volt is a pretty neat vehicle and its main feature of course the fact that it is mainly battery powered and not gas powered. This is a nice feature already if you care about the environment, but also for people who want to save money since you have much lesser of a need to buy gas.

great generation 2 update
Many improvements from 1st gen.
Great ev mode.
nice interior. I find the seats comfortable on long trips.
improved electric range from 1st gen.
Also, runs on reg gas, not premium.
Wish it had a gps system like the Nissan leaf ev I own.
That has charging stations on it too.
OnStar gives directions but basic mapping.
Also, rear right side visibility is not as good as I would like.
Better to get upgrade for passenger side vision.
Middle rear seat is a joke but can be used for short trips.
They should have left out the middle cup holder in the back seat.
Love electric drive.

Confortable and Very economical
Our lifetime efficiency is: 1.39 liter per 100km over the total of 64,320km... We used gas mainly starting in the fall up to April... cold weather! But as soon as the temperature is mild we are driving 90-97 % of the time in 100% electric.

great car so far
Only had it 4 months and 5,000 kms.
Good electric range.
Rated at 80 + kms / charge.
On the highway at 112km/hr. it gets better than 80 kms. with A/C on.
Trips north at 90 getting 90+ with A/C.
In the city with regen getting about 100 kms./charge.
Seats good. Interior good. Wish it had maps on screen like first gen or my Nissan Leaf does.
Only issue is rear vision. Due to slope of tailgate and high glass, vision could be better. Not as confident when changing to right lane. Head check hard to see and must depend on mirrors more.
Also, not sure why they did not up the inverter for charging.
Old version was 3.3 kw/hr. New is 3.6. Should be like the Leaf and others and be about 7 for faster charging. That plus no fast charger. With fast chargers popping up this year around Ontario, it would be nice to have that ability. Much improved over the first genereation which was fairly good car.

2014 Chevrolet Volt Electric

by Dan_Ott on 08-09-2016
Forget about gaz (almost)
After 36000 km, my life fuel consumption is 1.48L/100km. Between April and October, I fill up once. In the summer, my battery provides for approximately 70 km (no high way). Very pleased with fuel economy.

I have had some minor issues with the car (not with the drive train); I'm used to Toyotas, which are normally fault free, so a few minors issues do not compare perfectly. When compared to an american car, the reliability probably shine a lot.

The "friend of mother earth" side of me is very, very happy with the Volt.

2012 Chevrolet Volt Electric

The BEST car I have owned
This is the best car I have ever owned, and I have owned many, including expensive German cars, which were duds.
I have driven my volt all over the country, throughout BC and Alberta, and throughout the Western US states, Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Utah, and Idaho.
Performance is excellent, it is very comfortable to drive, handles well, very quiet, and nothing can beat the economy of driving a volt. In my daily commuting I use no gas at all, just cheap electricity. On average I get 6,000 to 7,000 KM between fill up's which on a volt is only 35 liters. When I am on road trips every summer I average between 42 and 46MPG, which is above the EPA rating.
I have owned my volt for 3 years and have run up over 65,000 KM on it so far.
I love the car so much that I am looking for a second one for my wife so she too can run around and go through virtually no gas. I considered an all electric, but never want to be faced with range anxiety, and even though the engine may only come on once a month when I need to go beyond the battery range, it is nice to know it is there.

2013 Chevrolet Volt Electric

by neromanceres on 05-03-2013
Awesome Car of the Future Today
I have a blue 2013 Chevrolet Volt. I've owned it for 9 months now. The car is spectacular. Good performance. The low end torque is awesome. Very quiet. I've put over 15,000 kms on mine and a tank of gas usually lasts me ~2 months. In a normal day I don't use any gas. I only use some gas for out of town longer trips. So far my overall average is 1.85L/100km and i'm 75% electric overall. This car will go right up to full speed in all electric this is not some Prius or Fusion it works different (and better).

Some people are concerned about the battery. I am not. This car does not use the same battery chemistry used in laptops. It uses Lithum Manganese Oxide which is a chemestry developed for automotive applications (vs Lithium Cobolt Oxide in Laptops or cell phones). The battery has it's own thermal management system which will heat or cool the battery as needed for best performance and life. Also the car has a 16.5KWh battery but only 10.8KWh is usable. The rest is buffer to maintain best performance and life. The warranty for the battery is 8 years or 160,000kms but the battery should maintain a good capacity well beyond the warranty in our Canadian climates.

2011 Chevrolet Volt Electric

Driving an Electric Car is Like Nothing You've Ever Experienced in an Automobile
There's nothing like the feel of driving an electric car. Ultra smooth, zero noise, like nothing else on the road. Not to mention the instant power that only electric can deliver. The VOLT allowed me to drive virtually gas free for 2 years. Only on extended trips was gas required. Remarkable technology coupled with stunning design packaged in a very safe (5 star rating) practical car that seats 4 adults very comfortably.
This car gets noticed and people will stop you often to ask you lots of questions about it. Mostly because they are jealoius and want one!
Enjoy.

It's pretty nice.
I bought this second hand from a friend, and it works really well. It's extremely comfy as well. Normally while riding in a vehicle I become uncomfortable after a while, however with this vehicle I do not have this problem. I haven't had a problem in terms of it's performance at all either.

2012 Chevrolet Volt Electric

The Volt spoils you for all other cars!
I've owned a Volt for 1-1/2 years now and I would be hard pressed to replace it with a nicer car to drive. Finally a car with amazing mileage that is not a dog to drive. If your commute is less than 100 km's per day this is the perfect car. If you need to go further just let the car do it's thing and burn some gas. The seats are firm and comfortable and the interior is well put together. I have had Zero problems with the car. I will go in in September for my 2 year oil change. That will be the first service for the car. I run snow tires in the winter so I rotate my own tires. The electric drive is near silent and powerful. The Brake rotors are a special alloy so they won't rot off the car in 2 years like most cars on the road. This is done because the car has electric regenerative braking that puts power back into the battery minimizing the use of the friction brakes. I only gave it a 4 in performance because I wish the battery could get another 25km's of range. As it is now I can get 95km EV range in the summer and 65km range in the winter on average. When the EV range is used up the generator comes on seamlessly and powers the electric drive motors. Then you just drive the car like any other car on the road. My commute is 55km each way of mixed driving. My average tank of gas in the winter is 1500km and in the summer my tank of gas was 7882kms on a 31L fill-up. Sorry it wasn't an average for the summer tank but I only used one tank this past summer! The car is heavy so it is great in the snow. Slush does not pull you around in this car. You get no wind buffet from trucks. This car is firmly planted on the road but still has plenty of pick up. It is no dog.

The only thing that would get me out of my Volt is a full EV with a 300+ mile range or another EREV like the Volt with double the EV range of the Volt. Until that happens, in a car I can afford, the Volt is the only car on the road for me!!

2012 Chevrolet Volt Electric

my kind of car
The Chevy Volt is my kind of car. I guess it’s not really a car in the standard sense, as it’s a kind of a cross between a full-on electric, with a little nudge from the “booster” engine. Technically, it's a "range-extended electric car," running exclusively in electric mode until its lithium-ion battery pack is depleted. The EPA rates that electric range at 38 miles, after which a 1.4-liter four-cylinder "range extender" engine switches on to spin a generator that produces electricity that powers the electric motor-which is what actually makes the front wheels turn. So it’s still somewhat dependent on fossil fuels, but you can drive across country, and only plug it in when you sleep. That’s another great thing – you stop, plug it into your or a friend’s 110 Volts – and when you wake up its ready to go. Its got a bit of a one-up from its main competitor, the Nissan Leaf, in that it charges more quickly, and isn’t limited by its range. This has always been the bugbear of electrics – they are either too slow, or they are really only suited to suburban driving. If you want to take off for the weekend, you had better pack your gear into that gas-guzzling SUV. My wife has one, but its going as soon as we can get a new Volt. Its possible to miss the Volt's revolutionary electric powertrain. If you never plug it in, its gasoline engine will keep it running happily as long as you keep filling the tank. You might not know that the front wheels are driven by a large electric motor. I suppose what’s most remarkable about this car is that it’s a GM product. This icon of all things American nearly died, but I am glad they didn’t, as they have produced this stellar car. With various incentives you can pick up the Volt for $30,000 or so. Although that’s seems pricey for a rather ordinary sedan, just wait until you return to the gas station.

2012 Chevrolet Volt Electric

by MartinV on 10-16-2012
One step into the future
This is an interesting car. Something out of the ordinary.

The car is purely electrically powered, however you have the advantage of on on-board generator that gives you a (much) extended range. That is awesome!

You do save money when you evaluate fuel usage. However the vehicle does have a high cost, if your province has any credit for this vehicle it might lower it but its a steep price relative to what your getting.

One concern is the life of the battery. Just like laptop (or any rechargeable) battery does not last forever after hundreds/thousands of recharges, I don't expect the car will go on for very long. Do research the cost of replacing them, that counts towards your gas 'savings'.

Overall view: If you like trying new gadgets this is your car (or maybe the Nissan Leaf?), but do the math on how much you are really saving if you are just trying to save money.
