MY 3RD TOYOTA SEQUOIA
SAFE EASY TO DRIVE VEHICLE. I WOULD CHANGE A FEW THINGS IN THE INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR DESIGN.
I HAVE DRIVEN IT IN SNOW STORMS AS OTHER VEHICLES WERE GOING OFF THE ROAD, IT STAYED ON.
THE ROOM INSIDE IS GREAT WITH THREE SETS OF SEATS, GIVING YOU GREAT OPTIONS.
IF I WAS THE DESIGNER I WOULD CHANGE A FEW THINGS FOR COMFORT AND SAFETY.BUT EVERYONE HAS A DIFFERENT OPINION ON DESIGN.
I GET GOOD OPINIONS FROM THE OUTSIDE MASSES , PEOPLE WALKING BY MY TRUCK/SUV.IT HAS A LUXURY LOOK TO IT. AND I AM GLAD AT THE COST OF IT.NOT CHEAP.

Spacious, Workhorse
Love the Toyota Sequoia. So spacious with the Limited version with capacity of 8 Passengers. The Sonar Sensors are a must and a backup camera is a great feature if available. Fuel economy is below average, but the trade off is enormous space, great reliable engine, and good towing capacity too.

Safe and comfortable vehicle
Great winter vehicle that safely navigates snowy roadways. Switching to AWD or 4WD on the fly is handy and allows peace of mind. With our two kids in sports, the back fold down seats allow for a lot of storage, or when upright they are terrific for car pooling. A blend of tough truck and family minivan. Just a great, solid vehicle.

Awesome family vehicle
Very reliable vehicle for Alberta winters! Bought it from my parents who took amazing care of it...professionally maintained. If you have anything you want to tow, this is the vehicle for you. Very safe vehicle as well! No collisions...a great buy!

Reliable and comfortable
This has been a very reliable, roomy and comfortable truck. Good handling. Can go through 2 feet of snow without any problem.

My only complain is the Solenoid on the Charcoal Canister that seized after 150,000Km and Toyota has stopped selling the Solenoid separately, which results in $700 repair cost to replace the entire charcoal canister. Mechanic says this is a common problem on all V8 Toyotas that after 150K to 200K the charcoal canister has to be replaced.

O2 sensor problems
A reliable and practical SUV, but once you get to 250,000Km, it will become expensive to maintain.

This Sequoia has been running fine since day 1, and has 274000Km and never quit on me. But in the past 3 weeks had Check Engine Light come on twice, and had to change two separate O2 sensors,The dealer set me back almost $600 the first time. MIL came on again, dealer charge $60 to tell me it was a different O2 sensor this time. A friend suggested a small garage in Richmond Hill and the cost was only $200 using the same Toyota OEM Denso O2 sensor.

My engine is also noisier now than when new and mechanic says it is because I have a timing chain that has started to wear off and changing the timing chain (and water pump etc) would be close to $1000; and this is what has prompted me to write this review. Plan to trade this with a new Sequoia or LX470.

Reliable + Good Handling
It is fun driving this powerful V8 that can do 0-60 mph in 8.2 seconds. Mine has 407,000 Km and is still running strong. Apart from regular maintenance have only changed one O2 sensor, a serpentine belt, two front stabilizer arms, and the power steering pressure hose that had corroded due to salt, and the rear hatch handle.
Paid just over $52K for it back in 2001, and it has been worth every pennyI paid for it. Wanted to buy a new one, but now with tax the Sequoia is over $70,000. So decided to drive this one for at least another couple of years and they buy a used one with 200K Km which now sells for arond $12K.

CONS: yes, it ain't not easy on gas compared to a Honda FIt or Yaris, So if you are worried about gas, then buy a Honda FIT or a Yaris, and not a Sequoia that has twice more interior room and is much safer on the road..

The ultimate SUV
PROS: Mechanical reliability of this truck is second to none. It is the best SUV money can buy. Have had mine for 13 years and plan to keep it another 13 years. The real and actual fuel economy of this huge truck is not much different from my V6 Camry. The difference is only about 20%. But for this little difference, I travel in first class, in a much safer 4x4 vehicle that can go any where and can hull anything. I also have a highlander, and have had a Navigator, a Pathfinder, and an X5. This is by far my favorite SUV.

CONS: The Sequoia is 6'4" tall, and some of the much older underground parkings in downtown Toronto and Montreal have 6' height limit. At least once a year I get into a situation I have to look for a parking that is high enough clearance.

2003 Toyota Sequoia

Money well spent
Owned my 2003 Sequoia since 2003. Aside from brakes, tires and the usual maintenance (which is reasonable), I haven't had any big problems.

Cruising speed and long distance drives are a pleasure. All the bells and whistles on mine meant nothing except an iPod adaptor was needed. Still looks great today as it did new.

Like how Toyota sticks behind it's product no matter how many years pass.

Truly a nice SUV on a truck platform. It's so reliable.

It's an amazing ride if you don't care for gas
I mean, you can try your best to follow tips and suggestions to get the most fuel efficiency from your vehicle, but it's a v8, how much resistance can you have from revving it high here and there? But other than that, it's flawless. Owned since 2006, not once did I have a major problem yet. (Hopefully doesn't change) Very spacious, and a smooth ride, for the amount I put down I was very satisfied with my purchase.

Excellent Vehicle
We have had zero problems with our sequoia and love the roomy interior. It doesn't feel like a big vehicle to drive and the drivers seat is comfortable for both of us even though there is about a foot of height different between us. It's even easy for my three year old to climb into! There is lots of cargo space, room for three carseats across the middle and adults can fit comfortably in the back as well. All in all, an excellent vehicle.

Rugged and good a decade later
1st generation Sequoias still represent one of the best SUVs deals on the market today. The way they handle with responsive steering, solid and reliable V8 power, truly impressive cargo room and overall cabin quality comfort and equipment make them both technologically and aesthetically (that truck design ages very well) still current. Try a 2003 Expedition back to back with a Sequoia and all these built in attributes and inherent qualities manifest themselves immediately. Floating and approximate VS tight and concise. On the cons side: brake pedal effort is considerable to bring the Sequoia to a halt, especially in city driving. While nimble, this full size SUV has considerable mass to move around and that fact can never really be escaped. As a result it eats up brakes quicker than smaller sized SUVs. Also watch out for overly sensitive VSC, I had to change ABS sensors more than once on mine. And of course, the elephant in the room: the V8 drinks, but all things considered it remains conservatively efficient overall (13 MPG city and 18 MPG highway, not bad to get an all terrain 128 cu. ft. cargo hauler).

Amazing family Car!
This car has gotten my family everywhere from hockey tournaments in snow stormes, to ballet competitions in dense fog. No matter what I know my family is safe.
Very reliable automobile, with a lovely designe that has easily held my family (and friends) on many occasions.
Mechanics: great, only concern is it is not very fuel efficiant due to the V8 engine.

Very Low Milage Platinum Sequoia with extended waranty
Very reliable SUV with loads of space and power. I would have kept this SUV for many years were it not that I am leaving Canada and going to Russia for work for several years.
I contemplated exporting it to Russia but decided not to due to the extremely high cost and very complicated procedures.

Ten years problem free
Long family trips, hauling toys, all with no worries. Started with 4Runners (3 of them) then moved up to the Sequoia for the 3rd row seat and wider body for seeing behind a double wide snowmobile trailer. The pulling power is not the best but it gets the job done. At 180000 kms it still gets 23 mpg and rides smooth with no shakes or rattles anx no visible rust anywhere. The only problem with that is it makes it hard to justify buying a new one.

For 2003, the eight-passenger Sequoia SUV features new 17-inch alloy wheels and tires and an inside rearview auto-dimming mirror as standard equipment on the top-of-the-line Limited grade, and as options on the SR5 model. The Best we've ever owned
Amazing design and comfort. Top of the line in interior design. lot's of storage. Cupholders are great bonus - more than we need ( 7 in front; 6 in 2nd row and 4 in the 3rd row). Placement and shortcuts to temperature, audio, phone on the steering wheel are awesome and very comfortable while driving. Fuel economy obviously is the only flaw, but it's not worse than the van we owned.
Great car. A++

This truck is great for the family. Roomy and versitile. Great trunk space with 3rd row. All the bells and whistles needed in the right spots. Additional comfort items like 3rd row air vents and fold in mirrors. Great visibility and easiest vehicle to park (truely). 4x4 capability is great in the winter for extra traction on snowy days. Toyota quality is second to none and this vehicle has it. Top pick and would recommend it to anyone.
